Rev. Jerry King will preach on Sunday, May 26 using the scripture from Proverbs 8:1-4,22-31 and John 16:12-15. The sermon is titled "Channel 101."

Flood Bucket Items
Well, it is Spring in Illinois and that can only mean one thing...RAIN. We have neighbors all over our Illinois Great Rivers Conference who are experiencing the devastation that flooding brings. We can help. The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has compiled lists of items that can be used in these flooded areas. The Midwest Mission Distribution Center handles all of these types of items for our district. Flood Buckets (5 gallon buckets with lids) can be made by you, your group, United Methodist Women/Men, Sunday School classes...the list can go on, and on.
The thing that needs to be stressed, do not stray from the list that is provided below. UMCOR has strict rules on what can be accepted. You may think that one little substitution would be “ok”, but your substitution will make that bucket unusable. So, please, PLEASE stay with the list, and ALL involved will be happy, and thankful for your donations.
We are going to collect these buckets for the month of May. You may bring them anytime you come to the church and place them in the donation bin in Fellowship Hall. Your generosity as a congregation never ceases to amaze me. If you have any questions regarding this project, please contact me, 525-1866 or jmcevoy@laurelumchurch.org.
Many of these items can be purchased at a dollar store (laundry/dish soap; household cleaners; handi wipes; clothes lines; dust masks; Playtex gloves). There is also the option of making a donation to the Midwest Mission Distribution Center. They buy items in bulk and can make the buckets for approximately $25.00 per bucket. If you choose to make a donation, please make your check out to Laurel UMC, and mark “MMDC” in the memo section of your check when you place it in the offering plate.
UMCOR Flood Bucket List
• 5 gal. bucket with re-sealable lid (clean)
• 5 scouring pads (not steel wool)
• 7 sponges
• 1 scrub brush
• 18 cleaning towels (reusable wipes/Handi Wipes)
• liquid laundry detergent (two 25 oz. or one 50 oz. bottle)
• 1 household cleaner, 12 to 16 oz. bottle—that can be mixed in water (no spray bottles)
• dish soap, 16 to 28 oz. bottle
• clothes line (two 50 ft. or one 100 ft.)
• 5 dust masks (disposable) (sealed in a bag)
• 2 pair reusable waterproof gloves (Playtex type)
• 1 pair work gloves (leather palm necessary)
• 24-bag roll of heavy duty trash bags, 33-45 gal (remove roll from box/roll into two sets of 12)
• 1 insect repellent spray (not killer), 6 to 14 oz. can (aerosol spray or pump with protective cover)
• 1 can air freshener (aerosol or pump)
• 50 clothes pins (wooden)
Cleaning Agents: All cleaning agents must be liquid and in plastic bottles. No powders.
Place all items in bucket. Sizes are important as all items must fit in bucket. Place list on outside of bucket and seal with lid.
